Opportunities to Serve

"Be doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves."
James 1:22

"Faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead."
James 2:17

Scripture shows us that there must be a connection between what we believe and how we live out our faith. Please take time to pray how God is calling you to minister in the church, the community and the world.

Listed below are some opportunities to serve. This list is updated from time to time as new opportunities arise.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE: New Member Orientation - Discipleship Ministry Team - Sunday Adult Bible Study - Families Ministry - Sunday School Superintendant - Nursing Home Ministry - Homebound Ministry - Church Historian - Welcome Center Attendant - Youth/Adult Fellowship - Kitchen Ministry (Wednesday Night Dinners). WE WANT YOU! The Youth Ministry is searching for Godly men and women within our church membership who have a passion for Christ and teenagers and who would be willing to meet weekly/monthly (depending on the ministry you choose) to share with them some of your spiritual gifts and skills.

Some of these outreach ministries "perform" during some of our numerous programs and Worship Services throughout the year. Volunteers would meet with teens on Sunday evenings for one hour, beginning immediately. Each adult would be asked to serve for at least one year, and couples are invited to serve together.

If you have a passion to share your gifts and skills with others, and if one of the following ministry outlets is something that you are willing and able to do for Christ and this church, please contact Robert Weatherall, Youth Minister, or Carole Dunham, Youth Ministry Secretary, at (352)683-2600 immediately. We really want to serve with you!

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS
Library volunteers staff the two libraries during open hours, catalog and process new materials and handle other day to day tasks that keep the libraries running efficiently.  For either library, you will need to have some experience using a computer (our Library Catalog is on a computer) and have some familiarity with locating and shelving books using the Dewey Decimal System (same as most public and school libraries) Some training is also available. Call Beth at 688-7975 or e-mail bdonaldson50@att.net for further information.  YOU could be a Library Volunteer! (1/11/2011)

Current Needs: (as of January 11, 2011)
  • Library Decor & Displays Coordinator:  Responsible, reliable adult(s) with youthful knees (for ladders) and energy to plan, obtain, advertise, and carry out seasonal and special displays in the main library and to organize and store decorations. Artistic flair helpful! Keep our library looking fresh and interesting all through the year.
  • Children's Library: Two adult volunteers to staff the children's library in Burns Hall one Sunday a month from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Looking for enthusiastic persons to help children check materials in and out, shelve returned items, decorate for various seasons/themes, and other tasks as needed.
  • Main Library: One or more adults to work in the main library on Sunday mornings, once a month, from 8:45-9, 10-10:15, and 11:15-11:45 (must be able to work all three times). Also need one adult to work Wednesday evenings, once or twice a month, from 5:45-6, and 7:15-7:30.
