This morning, the United Methodist Men’s Fellowship welcomes Derek Maul to Men’s Ministry Sunday, celebrating men in ministry and mission.

Derek writes regular columns for a number of news outlets. His commentary and features have appeared in Newsweek, USA Today, The Christian Science Monitor, Presbyterians Today, Guideposts, Chicken Soup for the Soul and many other print and online devotional publications. Derek is a regular writer for e-Review, a publication of the Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church.

In addition, Derek is in increasing demand as a conference leader and keynote speaker. He conducts workshops around the country on spiritual formation and discipleship at churches, retreats, and denominational conferences including the UMM Quadrennial in 2009. He has been the keynote speaker on numerous occasions at worship services in churches around the state.

Derek has written and published, "GET REAL: a spiritual journey for men" which was released in 2007; his second book “In My Heart I Carry A Star: Stories for Advent" in the fall of 2008; and, "The Unmaking of a Part Time Christian" was published in September of 2009.

Derek is married to Rebekah, a Presbyterian pastor. They reside in Brandon and have two children, Andrew (who currently lives in Italy) and Naomi (who lives in Connecticut with her husband of 2 years, Craig Campbell). The Mauls share their empty nest with a huge labradoodle, Scout, and a cool black cat named Darth.

Derek is active in teaching at his church: adult Sunday school, small-group ministry, and a men's Bible study/spiritual formation group. He enjoys the outdoors, traveling, photography, reading, cooking, playing guitar, and golf.
